Companies that don't train their bed bug detection dogs have to send the dogs back to the dog handler every six months for re-education. Why Use Dogs to Detect Bed Bugs?
Dogs have one of the best senses of smell among mammals. They can detect odours as weak as one part per trillion (1/1,000,000,000,000) even in the presence of thousands of other odours. Bed bugs emit a particular smell that is easy for a dog with proper training from a dog handler to detect, making it easier for the dog to find bed bugs in a room. According to the Journal of Economic Entomology (2014, Vol. 107 No. 6), properly trained detection dogs can detect bed bugs with 98% accuracy.

Why Does Elite K9 Choose German Shepherds?
We picked German Shepherds for our canine team because of their intelligence and excellent sense of smell. They rank among the five best sniffer dogs. Their long and thin muzzle allows them to work in corners to detect bed bugs, and their large size makes them more efficient when sniffing floors, mattresses and under mattresses in three quick steps.
